Obviously, me and myself are the really main point of Internet activities!
Posting videos on You Tube offers the possibility to create an online CV. The advantage of this is that it gives the employer an idea of our oral skills especially when we want to apply for a job in a foreign country.

Yet, it's important not to narrow the CV to the simple video but to improve it with a link towards the real CV, the literal details of the person's formation, because a video must be short and attractive. As a consequence, we must say things in a different way, and we cannot tell the whole content of a CV.

My little Ibook contents almost all my life... and what if he had a stroke one day?? Where would be my life??

We've been talking about Sex and The City previously, and in fact that's precisely what happens to Carrie, the main character of the TV show, her computer breaks down containing all the articles she's written for her chronicle "sex and the city". She's desperate and when she tells her friends how despaired she is, the three of them laugh at her because she didn't "back-up" her files... The funny thing of this episode is that Carrie is riled up because she didn't know anything about "back-up", but everyone does and no one never talks about it! if they had, she would have saved her files... At the end, she uses an external hard-drive to "back-up" her new articles...

Anyway.

Internet moves people to expose, veriliy overexpose their private life, their personnal pics, information about their cousins, their dog or their kitchen...

In USA, originally, the FaceBook is an annual book in which every student of a school or a University is listed and portaited with his diploma and his friends. Developped on the Internet, the facebook has been including more and more information about students, and it has become possible for them to look for their friends who study in other universities, and so to create extended networks. They content a huge amount of information and even if they were only to be seen by the students, other people such as teachers or hackers (A.K.A "stalkers") have been using the facebook contents against the harmless students.

The controversy has grown when the famous website FaceBook incorporates new tools : News Feeds and Mini Feeds thanks to which you can see easily every action of the user : uncensored transparency... quite dangerous... and as a matter of fact, the users are not very happy
Nobody knows who's reading his profile : Facebook becomes a "stalker central".
Outcome : someone you don't know can pretend he's you, another someone can phish your mailbox, cases of moral and even physical harassment have been noticed following facebook stalking... REALLY DANGEROUS IN FACT!

"privacy pollution" refers to the fact that all these informations are sometimes sold by a company to another. Your private life is broadcasted and sold to people who may not care about honesty... Is there a solution to that? The only advice that can be given is to be very careful : check if the website has a confidentiality charter, if it does, read it carefully, and beware of only filling the indispensable fields in the form. Otherwise you may be spammed outrageously. You can also choose for your mailbox a host which filters spams away (Gmail is good).

In a nutshell, the "Web Content Management System" allows the creation of "public websites" thanks to the CMS technology. Indeed, the Internet neophytes can now create their own content (text, pics, audio, video) and broadcast it on the Web. Internet creation is not exclusively reserved to an expert minority any more. It is definitely democratized. The blog phenomenon launched in early 2003 in France is enabled by the CMS technology, and nowadays widened to huge video and audio sharing websites.

Every Internet user becomes a full-fledged author, a publisher and a reader. He uses a simplistic interface to edit his own content. Participate and not only watch what's happening is great and very motivating for everyone, even if the patterns and the profiles are often alike.

Anyway, CMS raises a lot of problems concerning the legitimity of the author and the authenticity of the information (of the content, generally speaking)... it promises a lot of surprises and debates!

RSS means Really Simple Syndication.

It's a system based on XML (Extensible Markup Language), which allows an updating of a website on another website.

At first, this technology has been used a lot by Apple for the podcasts. Basically, when you open iTunes and you see that your software is downloading your podcasts by itself : that's RSS technology!
It is now used by a lot of websites and a lot of programs. Press Magazines use it to keep the reader informed of the latest news while he's surfing on the net.
Personal homepages such as NetVibes or MyYahoo!, use it to offer the Internet user a private and personnalized space where he can find all the news he's interested in fresh and altogether.

This little feed is promising for the future development of the Web.

According to Nielsen NetRatings, more than 100 million videos are played every day, and about 20 million of unique users per month. You Tube broadcast about 45% of the online video market, according to Hitwise audience measures.

On the 9th of October 2006, Google invested 1.65 billion dollars in YouTube. This opens a lot of perspectives in many directions. First of all, this partnership allows Google to improve his "video" part. Then it creates a huge space for professionnal advertising, and finally, it materialises the deepest wills of people who try to be known in audiovisual world.
Vice Versa, the Google technology will allow YouTube to improve its search engine.

Anyway, this network is definitely one of the most important innovation of the year, not to say of the beginning of the 21th century (definitely for the artistic world). In France, we've seen since a few weeks, the increasing success of Kamini, a country man, living in a 100 inhabitants village, who broadcasted his song and video on You Tube, and who's now known by everyone.

Indeed, there's a big, verily huge problem with the Web... sometimes, you see too much of people's intimacy. When it's about discovering the underwears of your neighbour, or things like that, it can be no such big deal, yet when it's about hacking your bank account or sign up for cell phone, you have much less fun...

Basically, the crime of identity theft occurs when someone, without your knowledge, acquires a piece of your personal information and uses it to commit fraud.

What are the favourite crimes comitted with your digital identity?

1- Credit card fraud is the most common type of identity theft.

The thief pretends to be the victim, calls the credit card company and changes the mailing address on an existing account.
Or, more commonly, the thief opens a new credit card account in the victim's name.
Because the bills are being sent to a new address, the victim doesn't realize there's a problem. The thief then uses the credit card without paying the bills, ruining your credit.

2- Cell phones...
The second category, (about half the number of victims as credit card fraud) is where an identity thief signs up for cell phone, long distance service, or utilities in the victim's name.

3- Other categories include:
Employment - getting a job using the victims name and identity, Social Security, Tax Returns, Medical, Residential Leases, Securities and Investments, Bankruptcy Fraud, Illegal Immigration and Miscellaneous government documents...

Anyway... There are definitely lots of ways to have fun with the "identity theft" stuff on the Web... so if you'd ever wanna get revenged, you know how to do it now...

Surfing on the Internet, visiting websites is for me the best way to learn English.

Indeed, about 50% of the websites are in english. So far, when we look for websites about a specific subject, there are a lot of chances for us to have interesting results in english. In my opinion, we learn a language by getting used with the words and phrases used in activities we like. As far as i'm concerned, i learned a lot of english words and phrases by browsing and looking for the lyrics of the songs I loved most.

1- Welcome in my little world! i share my pictures, my songs, and if you come back on my blog, you'll see how generous i'm by myself... it's not only teasing, it's also my inner self.
2- Insight : n.m ; the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively.
As a matter of fact, being a woman, this feeling is quite natural for me. Yet if men need to be connected on the Internet to feel the inner nature of things, I quite agree with it...
3- Comprehension is not an easy thing on Internet... On the contrary, good internet websites are so hard to find that it's hard to understand the good thing.
4- Discipline is the first thing to be respected on the Web. Try to give your credit card number on a wonky website and you'll suddenly find your bank account cross the red line...
5- Patience : the digital monster has it's own laws... "Patience et longueur de temps font plus que force ni que rage" said once a wise guy... take your time to find what you want and never get lost in the web's knights.

Social network theory views social relationships in terms of nodes and ties. Nodes are the individual actors within the networks, and ties are the relationships between the actors. There can be many kinds of ties between the nodes. In its most simple form, a social network is a map of all of the relevant ties between the nodes being studied.
These concepts are often displayed in a social network diagram, where nodes are the points and ties are the lines.

Small or open community?

As far as I may have noticed, more "open" networks, with many weak ties and social connections, are more likely to introduce new ideas and opportunities to their members than closed networks with many redundant ties. Finally, if your network is "closed" around people you know, you're likely to know thinks you already know, whereas if it's "open" to people you meet, (thanks to the connections to other social worlds) you're likely to have access to a wider range of information. It is better for individual success to have connections to a variety of networks rather than many connections within a single network.

Social network theory produces a new way of being in touch with people : the attributes of individuals are less important than their relationships and ties with other actors within the network. That is to say that social networks' spreading leaves less room for individual value.

Yet the success of MSN Messenger, MySpace, Friendset, Hi5 proves that people enjoy "meeting" and talking with people they don't know.

First of all, DRM is for Digital Rights Management. It's a group of different protection systems which protect digital files from copy. This solution allows the protection of the files so that they can only be plugged into the right player, and keeps away the unprotected transfer of these files.
That's the reason why the DRM offers a narrower broadcasting of the files' content and defines more precisely the parameters of the digital files. From that, it becomes possible to control how many times the file can be downloaded or read, or how long it's gonna be available for example.
The main problem with the digital technology, and especially with the rights' protection, is still the hacker's presence on the commercial field. It seems almost impossible to reduce this threat to zero, yet, the goal reached by the editors is more to keep the hackers back as much as possible more than trying to stop them. Indeed, edition and hacking problem were born at the same time. Digital technologies have grown a phenomenon which was already existing.

The debate about the Internet Neutrality was launched in april 2006 by a text called Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement ( COPE), upholded by the big american telecom companies, such as Verizon and AT&T.

What does XML mean? eXtensible Markup Language, a new and improved version of HTML Language. this new technology allows the user to personnalize his website thanks to markups, on the contrary, the HTML language's markups are fixed ones.
XML Language allows the division between content and presentation : the main advantage is that you can create as much contents as you want in the same version of the document.
Thus, the "new web" consists mainly in the development of community websites, and of a "web personnalisation" thanks to the use of RSS Links.
